Sporting Involvement

We are proud sponsors of the Wellington Junior Rugby League team, the Wellington Cowboys.

In 2011, we also sponsored the Brewarrina team in the local rugby league knockout, organised by the Brewarrina Golden Googars. The round robin competition brought together six teams, with players travelling from Grafton, Sydney, Newcastle, Dubbo, Narromine and surrounding towns. The sposorship of the jerseys for the local team in this competition was particuarly important in 2011 when so many small and isolated rural communities were affected by flood waters.

The Googars hope this will become an annual event, with a focus on family entertainment in a drug and alcohol free environment where sporting skills are recognised and rewarded. The Brewarrina Golden Googars came runners up to another local side called Barwon. The Barwon team took to the field in memory of Shane Boney, a young indigenous local who passed away earlier in the year. Some of Shane's brothers, nephews and cousins played in the team.
