We are working with interested members of Dubbo community to plan a community garden at the former market garden site on the corner of Macquarie and Tamworth Streets. The community garden will give volunteers and community groups a chance to work with us to provide opportunities for our employment and training programs.
The initial goals of the community garden is to create a resource for Dubbo that promotes:
- gardening and vegetable growing
- community building
- shared spaces for members of the community to gather.
Thanks to $13,500 of start up funding from Housing NSW, weare working to establish a community working party to design and implement the Community Garden Project. Our role is to champion the idea through:
- using our strengths as a formal organisation
- providing links to funding
- managing insurance
- supporting the working party with resources, expertise and encouragement
- gathering support for the project from other organisations.
For a community to have a sense of ownership of a project, they need to be part of it from the beginning. Our hope is to invite ideas and participation from across the community and to offer our support to ensure those ideas can be brought to fruition in a safe and sustainable way.
To become involved in the working party call OEC on 6809 9930.
